Harrington Insurance Agency satisfies another client

April 16, 2009

Dear Harrington Insurance Agents,

I would like to let you know about the magnificent experience I had while working with Donegal Insurance Company for a homeowner’s claim.  I contacted Donegal direct via the toll free number.  The representative was very polite and helpful; she filed my claim over the phone and informed me that I would be hearing from an adjuster within 2-3 days.  The adjuster contacted me the next morning and scheduled an appointment for 8 am the following day.  He arrived promptly at 8:00 am and was gone before 8:05 am.  He was extremely professional and informative.  Within two days I received a check in the mail from Donegal.  Therefore, the entire process with the insurance company was handled in less than 5 days from the date of my phone call.

The repair work is complete, everyone is paid and most importantly, I am extremely happy.  I will admit I was very nervous about a homeowner’s insurance claim, but it was a seamless, hassle-free matter.  Thank you to everyone at Harrington Insurance for providing such an awesome, affordable insurance company and thanks to Donegal for being that awesome (and affordable) insurance company.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Jeannine S. Knight

Why Use An Independent Agent?

Consumers are well served by turning to an independent agent for the personal service and attention that an agent provides by knowing you and the host of circumstances that may impact your insurance needs. Here are a few examples of what a trusted agent can offer.

They know the landscape

Since independent agents often represent numerous insurance companies, they know exactly what options are available in the market. With countless coverage options available, there is nothing more valuable than a consultative agent who considers your interests when shopping for coverage.

You may have a special need or may be eligible for unique discounts that only certain carriers offer. Good savings can be found – including discounts and credits on auto insurance for driving a hybrid vehicle, having multiple cars on a policy, being a good student, or possessing anti-theft systems – and agents can help you take advantage of these discounts.

They know you, your family and your business

Every insurance situation is different. You need to consider many factors in selecting the coverage you need. The ultimate purpose of insurance is to protect you, your family, your business and, ultimately, your assets should the worst happen. By having an established relationship with an agent, you will be in the best position to select the protection and price to meet your own situation.

If you’re just now embarking on an agent relationship, your agent should ask probing questions and make coverage recommendations tailored to your unique circumstances. Remember, it’s not always about finding the lowest premium; it’s about having the coverage you need.

They can help answer questions

Let’s face it: Insurance can be a complex subject. Many consumers have questions about insurance – from the very basic to the complicated – that they are hesitant to ask. But when it comes to protecting your family and assets, no question should go unasked, no matter how basic it is.

Your independent agent has the expertise to answer your questions and can take the time to make sure you understand all aspects of your policy. Bottom line: having a conversation is a great way to learn more about insurance.

They can manage multiple policies

Auto insurance is the most common form of insurance protection, but home, umbrella, flood, and other business and personal insurance products become increasingly important as an individual’s or company’s circumstances become more complex. What’s more, you can save by combining two or more insurance policies with one company, and you’ll have one main contact person for all your insurance needs.

Pool Safety

Every year about 43,000 people are injured in and around swimming pools and more than 600 people drown in home or public pools. Half of the pool fatalities occur in the yards of single-family homes. Here are some pool safety tips you should follow:

  • Never leave small children unsupervised-even for a few seconds.
  • Put fencing around the pool area to keep people from using the pool without your knowledge.
  • Keep children away from pool filters, as the suction force may injure them or prevent them from surfacing.
  • Be sure all pool users know how to swim. Learners should be accompanied by a good swimmer.
  • Don’t swim alone or allow others to swim alone.
  • Check the pool area regularly for glass bottles, toys or other potential accident hazards.
  • Keep CD players, radios and other electrical devices away from pools or nearby wet surfaces.
  • Don’t allow anyone who has been drinking alcohol to use the pool.
  • Stay out of the pool during rain or lightning storms.
  • Never dive into an above-ground pool and check the water depth before plunging into an in-ground pool. Keep clear of the area near a diving board.
  • Don’t swim if you’re tired or have just finished eating.

Understanding Motorcycle Insurance

March 19, 2008

Whether you’re an enthusiast or a first-timer, having fun, being responsible and being safe is what it’s all about. Being responsible includes finding the right insurance.

Motorcycle insurance is a way of sharing the risks of driving between you and your insurance company. The way it works is simple. You pay a set premium to an insurance company for coverage. In return, the company promises to pay for specific financial losses that might occur during the term of the policy.

Most people rely on motorcycle insurance to protect themselves against loss in case of an accident. In many states, you must carry basic insurance to cover the cost of losses you cause to others in an accident. If the unexpected happens, insurance gives you peace of mind in knowing you are protected.

We have a variety of motorcycle policy options to meet your needs.

Flood Insurance

March 19, 2008

Springtime is right around the corner.  And with spring, come the spring rains.  A few inches of rain in a day and storm drains back up, drainage ditches fill, and rivers begin to rise.  All of a sudden, the flood waters are at your door.

Most people think that a flood won’t happen to them.  But according to FEMA, one-third of all claims paid by the National Flood Insurance Program were policies in a low-risk community.  The average flood claim paid for the period of 1997-2006 was $46.168.  Your home has a 26% chance of being damaged by flood during the course of a 30-year mortgage, compared to only a 9% chance of fire.

With those statistics in mind, homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage.  You have two choices when it comes to flood insurance coverage:

  1. Hope that you qualify for federal disaster aid.  This aid comes only after the president declares a federal disaster area and is usually in the form of a loan with interest.
  2. Think ahead and purchase a flood insurance policy.

Flood insurance is available in most communities in Delaware.  And most flood applications require a standard 30-day waiting period.
